Maine Marriage Demographics and Statistics

This report explores how Maine’s population’s marital status is changing—and how the data compares to the United States as a whole. The American Community Survey (ACS), conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau, publishes detailed estimates of Maine's population each year, subdivided by a wide variety of characteristics—including their marital status. "Married" includes people who are separated.

Unlike the Census—which is an exact count of people and households every ten years—ACS statistics are estimated based on a representative survey sample.

About the Data

Data is from the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey (ACS), 1-year estimates. The population considered in this report only includes people 15 years and older. The following tables are used:

• Median Duration of Marriage trend: Table B12504, currently-married or separated population
