San Miguel County Marriage Demographics and Statistics

This report explores how San Miguel County’s population’s marital status is changing—and how the data compares to the United States as a whole. The American Community Survey (ACS), conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau, publishes detailed estimates of San Miguel County's population each year, subdivided by a wide variety of characteristics—including their marital status. "Married" includes people who are separated.

Unlike the Census—which is an exact count of people and households every ten years—ACS statistics are estimated based on a representative survey sample. 

For locations with populations under 60,000, the ACS is only available in 5-year estimates, rather than single-year periods. The 5-year estimates provide more geographical granularity by using survey data from a less granular time period.
